Mission Statement

Our Department of Code Enforcement and Inspections has been established to insure compliance with all state, county and local codes for public safety.

Owners of both residential and commercial properties should be aware of the fact that almost all renovation, alteration and new construction requires some type of a construction permit before any of the work is started. An example of some of the projects that require permits are fences in our multifamily housing developments, decks, sheds over 100 square feet, swimming pools, roof and siding replacements, interior alterations such as finished basements or office renovations, heater replacements or conversions, sewer and water service replacements, lawn sprinklers and electric service replacements just to list a few. Obviously, I could go on forever and may not list all of the types of projects that require permits. Therefore, we welcome you to contact our department before you start your project.

During the course of construction you are responsible to obtain progress inspections, such as, but not limited to, footings before the placement of concrete, foundations before backfill, slabs before placement concrete, rough plumbing, electrical and fire inspections before a framing inspection, insulation before sheet rock is installed, trench inspections for sewer and water services before backfill, trench inspection for electrical equipment before backfill. Once the project is complete you must obtain final building, plumbing, electrical and fire inspections and a Certificate of approval or Occupancy (according to the type of work) before the project is used or occupied. Failure to obtain the required inspection could result in a fine and violation.

Inspection requests can be made through our department by phone or fax numbers listed above. You should allow for 24 hours prior notice when requesting any inspection. Building inspections may be scheduled for any time during our normal office hours Monday through Friday. Our electrical, plumbing and fire inspectors are part time. You will need to call the office to verify their schedules. They usually perform inspections on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
